Jatiya Party’s (JP) election results may be considered satisfactory considering the adverse environment it had to encounter for a long time, starting from the beginning of the interim government. Given the circumstances, no better result could have been possible. The results declared were too bad to be accepted as true by a good number of people.

For a long time, Jatiya Party suffered from an identity crisis. Whenever Jatiya Party is mentioned, the obvious question that used to come is, “Which Jatiya Party?” Right after 1996 (or 7th Parliamentary election) and afterward, especially from 2014 (or 10th Parliamentary election) onwards, the then ruling party, Bangladesh Awami League (BAL), created a parallel group in JP to work in favor of the BAL government. Jatiya Party was always a hostage to those people. Even if efforts were made to push them out, the then government used extraordinary measures to force them in. Whenever the mainstream Jatiya Party pursued pro-people politics during that time, its efforts were distorted by that section. Sometimes people misunderstood the Jatiya Party by the actions and speeches of those.

The same group used the old trick and wanted the party to drift from its pro-people stand during the interim government period and support the anti-people activities of the interim government. Failing to achieve, they tried to create a rift and snatch the party from its present leadership by irregular means. It was revealed by them that they received assurance of support in different forms from the interim government. However, JP stood united and firm, and the conspiracy did not work this time.

It is hoped the issues have been resolved. People now understand who JP is and will also have a clear understanding of what JP’s politics are.

JP has participated in the election not so much to win but to prove that it has been wrongly victimized by some vested interest group. By being able to be in the election firmly from the beginning to the end, fighting all odds and injustices, it proved the fact that Jatiya Party is invincible. Despite various conspiracies against it, starting from the early nineties till date, nobody could stop JP and its politics.

A new opportunity has been created to rebuild the party afresh. JP will be with the people in the future, just as it was in the past. JP has a very colorful past. With clear pro-people politics, hopefully, JP would be attractive to the new faces in politics. Jatiya Party now wants to have a rebirth from grass root level as a pro-people political platform.
